Elizabeth Hurley is the Region A Governor.
Elizabeth graduated with degrees in Computer Science, Psychology and Communication from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Her work experience is in the high tech industry focusing on technical software product training. Elizabeth enjoys hiking and traveling with her husband, Chris, and their dog, Riley.
Virginia Connolly, P.E. will serve as the FY09 SWE President.
Virginia is a Lean Sigma Master Black Belt for Medtronic, Inc., the global leader in medical technology. In her role, she works in the Office of Workplace Inclusion where she studies health care disparities and employee retention issues. A certified Black Belt and Master Black Belt, Virginia has also worked on numerous Lean Sigma projects while supporting product engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain areas at Medtronic's Microelectronics Center (MMC) to develop continuous improvement strategy and execution. Virginia also developed a site-specific Lean Sigma team for while serving as the MMC Lean Sigma Deployment Leader.
Prior to joining Medtronic, Virginia worked for an aerospace company where she gained a broad base of experience in a variety of positions in development engineering, manufacturing, and information technology.
Virginia has been involved with SWE for more than 20 years and has held various positions in the Arizona State University (ASU) and Phoenix Sections and the Sonora Region. Her service on the National SWE Board includes Region Director, three terms as the Speaker of the Council, and Director of Education. In 1997, Virginia received the Phoenix Section's Outstanding Member Service Award.
Virginia has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in industrial engineering from Arizona State University. She is an alumnus and former board member of Arizona Leadership 2000, a women's leadership group, and is also a member of the American Society for Quality.
In her spare time, Virginia enjoys traveling, especially to warm climates to scuba dive with her husband, Rick. She also bicycles to work at least once a week and practices yoga. Virginia and her husband are helping their miniature schnauzer, Derby, raise her daughter, Sophia, to be a well behaved, loving dog, which is turning out to be quite a task.
Barbara Adey is the Senior Director for Strategy in Worldwide Operations at Cisco Systems. She works with engineering, sales and marketing leaders to recommend and implement strategic initiatives in new areas of business for Cisco.
Prior to joining Cisco in 1999, Barbara was the Vice President of Technology for the Canadian Cable Television Association. Over the course of her career, she has worked in every facet of industry from software development to product management to sales.
Barbara holds a bachelors degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA from York University. She was born in Montreal and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.
Captain Paz B. Gomez graduated from San Diego State University in May 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In June 1988, she received a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (with a Construction Engineering and Management emphasis) from Stanford University. In December 1989, she was awarded a Master of Science degree in Management from Troy State University. She is also a graduate of the Naval War College Nonresident Seminar Program and the University of California, San Diego Professional Certificate in Hazardous Materials Management Program. In May 2005, she completed the Advanced Executive Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
Throughout her 25-year Navy career, she has served in positions such as Staff Civil Engineer and Resident Officer in Charge of Construction at various locations in Puerto Rico, Florida, California, Japan, and Washington, DC. In June 2006, she reported to her current duty station where she is the Deputy Director, Facility Investment and Management for the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
Captain Gomez has received numerous decorations and awards, including the 2007 National Women of Color in Technology Managerial Leadership Award. She was also recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the U.S. in October 2007.
Captain Gomez is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of California. She is also a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Society of American Military Engineers (National Elected Director for 2007-2010), American Society of Civil Engineers, and is a lifetime member of the Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society; Chi Epsilon, National Civil Engineering Honor Society; and Phi Eta Sigma, National Freshman Honor Society.
